Located Fontenay-le-Comte, in Vendée, the castle of Newfoundland is a beautiful Renaissance building now classified historical monument. Built in the late sixteenth century to Nicolas Rapin, while comrade of King Henry IV of France, he received over the centuries many famous people in the history of France like Agrippa of 'Aubigné or the Duke of Sully.
The original building, there is still the plan angle of the house, but the whole was largely changed in the nineteenth century by its owner at the time, Rochebrune, a renowned etcher that left many views of the castle to posterity. Now open to the public, the present site since 2018 a very interesting museum dedicated to Fontenioux-Rochebrune collections. Housed in one of the outbuildings, it reveals more than 300 decorative art objects and a large loan from Nantes Dobrée museum through its military archeology department.
