Fontan

Despite its small population, the village of Fontan however has an important heritage that appealed to all visitors passing through.

Inaugurated in 1632, the Notre-Dame-de-la-Visitation not lack of interest. Classified as an historic monument, it was used as a hospital during the wars of succession of Spain and Austria. Raised in the eighteenth century, it has a beautiful baroque church tower with glazed tiles and an organ and a clock nineteenth century. Nearby, one can enjoy the charm of St. Bernardin chapel built in the early eighteenth century.

Hiking paths, like the circuit of Ceva, or the path of Groa, can admire beautiful natural wonders, like the gorges carved Bergue red shale.

Fontan includes the hamlets of Bergue lower and higher Bergue host of great sites. One can in particular discover the chapel Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci, Quebec, the oratory Saint-Roch 1875, the turret, a former military post, or Ughetto barns of which one of the buildings is covered a thatched roof. Not far from the turret, a bridge of the same name, was rebuilt in 1952 after being destroyed by the Germans during their retreat in April 1945.

Each September, Fontan hosts an interesting fair for new and used books.

October is the setting for an entertaining and fun event party of hunters and chestnuts. On this occasion, a dinner dance is proposed.
