Created in 1967 under the leadership of Maurice Genevoix, writer and veteran, the Verdun Memorial stands proudly Fleury-devant-Douaumont in the Meuse. Located in the heart of the battlefield, this place of history and memory offers a total immersion in the Battle of Verdun.
Visitors will discover with interest over 2000 collectibles, photographs or French and German evidence suggesting that terrible time. Composed of an area of 1800 m² permanent exhibition and 175 sqm of exhibition, the museum is spread over three levels with an audiovisual show about the battle and a crypt, a space fliers or gunners and life to the front, and then the walls of the memorial created for the centennial, which consist of interactive terminals and a documentation room.
With its renovation in the mid 2010s, the Verdun Memorial has been enriched with new objects, revealing especially patriotic objects, objects illustrating life at the front or objects loaned by German institutions.
