The tour of the town (by Garabit, Faverolles, Saint Mark, Saint Just and Loubaresse):
The hamlet of Garabit, commune delegated Loubaresse, north of the town, gave its name to the famous viaduct of Garabit, built in 1880 by Gustave Eiffel. Its height of 122 m makes it at the time the highest viaduct in the world. We quickly notice similarities with the Eiffel Tower, built 3 years after the end of Garabit's work.
The viaduct spans Truyère, the main tributary of the Lot, and marks the beginning of Lake Grandval, more than 20 km long with numerous meanders. This artificial lake offers a lot of water and nautical activities. A nautical base for motorboat welcomes you near the viaduct to offer rental motor boats, jet ski, water ski or towed buoy. Further on the same side of the lake, and still on the municipality delegate Faverolles, you can go to the sailing club Mallet offers rentals and courses around sailing activities (windsurfing, optimist, catamarans, dinghies, pedal boats...) and many other leisure activities (canoeing, kayaking, rowing, predator fishing...).
Going up on the delegated commune of Faverolles, you will see the castle of Chassan (visits the afternoons in July and August). The campsite Faverolles can accommodate you for a stage. The churches of Faverolles and the hamlet of Montchanson contain some pieces of sacred art (painting "La Charité Saint Martin" and altarpieces).
Continuing the tour of the town of Val d'Arcomie, you can cross the small village of Saint Marc, and its rocky rock, granite of 400 tons posed by the nature in balance on a promontory, that one can make move an oscillation light to the mere force of man.
Not far from there, the Calvary of Recoux, on the delegated commune of Saint Just, allows to dominate all Val d'Arcomie, to observe the Margeride and the Cantalian reliefs dominated by the lead of Cantal. Coming down from Calvary, you will cross the pretty village of Saint Just, and its municipal campsite equipped with an outdoor swimming pool (July and August), a tennis court, bungalows and gites.
You will then return to Loubaresse, a commune that hosts the town hall of Val d'Arcomie.
You will be able to visit in the village the Pierre Allègre farm, stage of the ecomuseum of the Margeride, as well as the apiaries of the Margeride. Not far from there, you can visit the cheese farm and its museum "the furrows of the Margeride", or contemplate the castle of Longevialle (XVII) on the banks of the Truyère.
