Historical Monument since 1945, the château d'Estaing has a remarkable history and architecture that we invite you to discover.
Set on a promontory overlooking the slate Lot, the castle was for nearly eight centuries the residence of the d'Estaing family, one of the most illustrious of Rouergue.
From the 11th to 18th century buildings have evolved and adapted to the needs and modes of each generation: the defensive guns alongside decorative balusters decorated with the coat of arms of the d'Estaing family Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance share facades.
Several members of the d'Estaing family, military or religious, are in the history of France and in the Rouergue.
In 1794, the building, confiscated and divided, is sold by the state as a national asset. From 1836 the castle became the mother house of the Congregation of St. Joseph religious d'Estaing, before being transferred to the town of Estaing in 2000.
In 2005, SCI du Château d'Estaing made by Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, President of the French Republic from 1974 to 1981, became the owner of the building. Then in 2012, is Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, who became owner Foundation.
Thus began a restoration program to restore the castle to its original appearance and make it a place of memories aims. The work is done both outside and inside buildings by skilled craftsmen who care to make life in this building so special.
The renovated rooms will gradually acquire furniture, objects and historical documents to present the history of the castle and its successive inhabitants, and the seven-Valéry Giscard d'Estaing and the work of the European Convention 2002-2003.
