Located about ten kilometers from La Rochelle, Esnandes is a commune of Charente-Maritime, in the region of New Aquitaine. It sits at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, facing the bay of Aiguillon, not far from Charron and Marsilly.
Occupied since prehistoric times, the region of Esnandes has a long and rich history. The town has in particular vestiges of the Gallo-Roman era, like the villa on Pointe Saint-Clément. It developed in the Middle Ages, including its fortified church destroyed during the wars of religion in the early seventeenth century, and then turned mainly to mussel farming. It is here that were born the first beans used today all over the coast to produce fresh mussels.
Esnandes still has an architectural and natural heritage of interest to discover the time of a stay in the surroundings.
