The Saint Martin Church is located Escales in Aude, 27 km west of Narbonne.
The building was built in the twelfth century in Romanesque style.
The church is classified historic monument since 1913 is particularly notable for its bedside kind Lombard. Thus, the apse and apsidioles covered slate are decorated with decorations features compounds of pilaster strips (vertical bands of low relief) and arches. At these, basalt cords line the splaying windows.
The church is also remarkable for its Romanesque bell tower with twin bays, the high altar consists of a Roman sarcophagus or general material, the sandstone typical of the Corbières massif.
A must before enjoying the unspoilt surroundings of the village of medieval origin, surrounded by vineyards and overlooking the plain.
