Ervy-le-Châtel

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Aube

Ervy-le-Châtel is located at 160 meters of altitude, in the southern confines of the Champagne-Ardenne. It occupies the site of a very old circular strong place of about two hectares called "Pâté" which crowns one of the last buttresses of the massif of the forest of Othe above the valley drained by the Armance.

The heritage is particularly rich since three monuments are classified or inventoried "historical monuments": the church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Links, the Saint-Nicolas gate and the circular market.

Things to see and do

Discovery tour of Ervy-le-Châtel: In the confines of Champagne and Burgundy, Ervy-le-Châtel offers, in the bend of its medieval streets, the discovery of the treasures of its built heritage. The most original, its circular half-timbered hall, dating from 1836 - 1837 and its magnificent chestnut ceiling, beautiful work of a companion of duty. Its Saint-Pierre-ès-liens church (15th century), currently closed for restoration, is a true museum of the Trojan school of the sixteenth century, remarkable for its statuary. The town also preserves the only medieval door still remaining in the Aube, the Porte Saint-Nicolas (1450). The house of Vitrail, new in this city, welcomes the public to discover the history of stained glass, the windows of Ervy-le-Châtel and the country of Armance, as well as children for educational workshops.
