Standing on top of a rocky spur on a meander of the Var river, the medieval fortified village of Entrevaux enjoys a beautiful natural setting.
After entering the village over a drawbridge, you discover a maze of charming and picturesque narrow streets lined with old houses, as well as a Gothic cathedral with a magnificent Baroque interior.
Dominating the village roofs is a hilltop citadel built by Vauban in 1690 and reached via a fortified walkway that zigzags up the hillside. At the top, visitors can explore the fortifications and get a fantastic panoramic view of Entrevaux and the Var valley!
Not to be missed: Entrevaux medieval festival with its busy programme of events in the old village in July.
