Ennezat

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Puy-de-Dôme

Municipality of Puy-de-Dôme, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Ennezat takes place in the heart of Limagne, between Ambène and Morge. It is located not far from Riom, Entraigues and Martres-sur-Morge.

Known since the Middle Ages, the commune of Ennezat experienced a new boom in the 12th century with the founding of the new town. High economic place at the time, with in particular two fairs and a permanent market, it suffered a decline following the Hundred Years War and the Wars of Religion. It experienced a certain rebound in the 19th and 20th centuries with the cultivation of beets before taking on the face we know today.

Appreciated for the richness of its architecture, Ennezat is also recognized in the region for hosting the largest biogas unit in the whole of Auvergne.

Things to see and do

Listed as a Historic Monument, the Saint-Victor et Sainte Couronne church was erected in the 11th century thanks to donations from Henry II of England and Philippe Auguste. Originally in the Romanesque style, it underwent a Gothic transformation in the 13th century, but only on the choir and the nave. The building now reveals a narthex and a nave with four bays as well as a square transept surmounted by a central dome. Inside, it is possible to admire a lectern with two eagles facing each other in sculpted wood, a 17th century polychrome wooden statue of Saint Blaise, very beautiful sculpted stalls or even mural paintings representing the Last Judgment and the three dead and three alive.

While strolling through the town, you can also discover the statue of Saint-Michel. It consists of a Volvic stone base and a golden molded cast iron statue representing the Archangel Michael crushing the dragon.

Listed as a Historic Monument, the medieval necropolis known as the Champ des Juifs attests to a large Jewish community from the 13th century. Private property, it is not accessible.
