The charming little town of Égreville in the Gâtinais region has a pretty square featuring a 16th-century wooden covered market and Saint-Martin church, flanked by an imposing bell tower porch.

Also worth seeing is the Château d'Égreville (not open to the public) that used to belong to the composer Jules Massenet.

Fans of fresh produce mustn't miss the market that takes place every Monday morning on Place Massenet and under the covered market.

Additional information
Égreville

On the plateau overlooking the valley of Loing, Égreville is a charming village of Gatinais. This village is representative of the rich agricultural region of Gâtinais. Its hall, church and castle give the village a medieval appearance. The Bourdelle garden-museum and its statues constitute a remarkable cultural and artistic curiosity. The swimming pool, the tennis courts and the various sports facilities offer many possibilities to the sportsmen.

The history of the region is very rich since civilization is manifested from the Paleolithic, as evidenced by many vestiges that can be found, among other things, the Museum of Prehistoric Nemours. From the sixth century a flourishing iron industry made the wealth of the country with the development of its trade. Égreville was in the middle of a triangle of three strongholds: Château-Landon, Lorrez-le-Bocage and Ferrières-en-Gâtinais. This allowed him to become an important commercial hub. Its fairs and markets enjoyed great renown. Égreville has inherited its prosperous past, a heritage that, long appreciated by artists, now attracts tourists. We come from far away every second Saturday in December to attend a picturesque market with fat poultry animated by several contests, a local produce market and on-site tastings of white pudding and apple juice pressed in the old fashioned way. Today, Égreville is at the limit of three departments: Seine-et-Marne, Loiret and Yonne. Égreville is located 20 km south of Nemours. At 1 hour from Paris, it is reached by the A6 motorway exit Nemours (No. 16) or by Courtenay from the South. The nearest train stations are Souppes-sur-Loing (12 km) or Nemours (20 km).
