Municipality of Deux-Sèvres, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, Échiré takes place about ten kilometers from Niort, in the heart of an agricultural and wooded area. It is also located not far from Saint-Gelais, Cherveux and Germond-Rouvre.
Populated since the Neolithic, as evidenced by the remains found on site during archaeological excavations, the territory of Échiré also experienced significant activity during the Gallo-Roman period. The one that was called Eschire at the beginning of the 13th century took its current name in the 17th century, then experiencing significant growth due to its agricultural activities revolving around the cultivation of oats, millet, flax and even hemp.
Known throughout the world for its butter, the town also presents its visitors with a significant architectural heritage that bears witness to its rich medieval past.
