The castle of Dracy-lès-Couches is located in the commune of the same name, in the department of Saône-et-Loire, 18 km northeast of Le Creusot.
It was originally a fortress located on the slope to the northwest of the current town.
In the 14th century, seat of a fief whose lord was Robert de Dracy, the castle was made up of a square keep in the center of a fortified enclosure and buildings forming a quadrilateral.
The whole was in the possession of the lords of Lugny then of Montjeu in the 15th century, and it then passed to Morin de Cromey who rebuilt the estate in 1547.
The castle besieged in 1593 was later acquired by the Marquis of Grammont, at the beginning of the 18th century.
After the Revolution, many owners continued to succeed one another.
Today, the 16th century castle is still visible with its keep and its towers, courtyards punctuating the whole and a cellar connecting two towers. The main house is located to the west.
However, major work carried out in the 19th century (destruction of the walls, the corner tower and the agricultural buildings closing the south-east side of the castle and the south of the main courtyard, rearrangement of the facades in the neo-Gothic taste then in vogue) gave a new appearance to the estate.
Furthermore, a park was created by the Bühler brothers, renowned landscapers, all the more highlighted as sections of the previous building were razed.
The castle, listed in the Inventory, is now at the center of an important wine estate.
