A Norman place of worship erected in the second half of the 19th century, the Notre-Dame de la Délivrande basilica replaces a Romanesque chapel from the 12th century. In neo-Gothic style which is inspired by the works of the 13th century architect Jacques Barthélémy, the building takes place in the heart of Douvres-la-Délivrande, in Calvados, and houses the famous statue of Notre-Dame la Délivrande, a Black Virgin of the Sixteenth century. It is the object of the oldest cult in all of Normandy which, in the Middle Ages, was as famous as that of Mont-Saint-Michel.
Erected as a basilica at the end of the 19th century, the Notre-Dame de la Délivrande basilica hosts a Marian procession every year in August. On each side of the nave, in the old small chapels, it reveals to its visitors very beautiful stained glass windows evoking different apparitions of the Virgin such as La Salette, Fatima or Lourdes.
