Doussard is a town situated to the south of the Haute -Savoie, in the Rhône -Alpes. Made up of nine villages, it now houses more than 3600 inhabitants and has a beautiful environment with the west bank of Lake Annecy, at the beginning of Faverges Valley.

Ancient city based near Annecy, Doussard reveal traces of life from the Neolithic and Gallo-Roman installations. Boasting a mountain continental climate with a marked moisture Doussard charm by its Savoyard architecture as well as its presence in the Regional Natural Park of the Bauges.

Things to see and do

In typical Savoyard architecture, the city of Doussard has a very interesting heritage, as well as beautiful landscapes that lend themselves to hiking in all its forms.

The Chapel of Our Lady of the Nativity including being visited by St. Francis de Sales. Ruined following the Terror, it was rebuilt in 1862. Inside, one can admire a statue of St. John of the fifteenth century and a statue of the Virgin of the nineteenth century, both classified historical monument. A cross with snakes, entirely of cast iron, was also closed. The nearby St. Maurice Church, the nineteenth century, has a neoclassical Sardinian type.

Walking through the city of Doussard, it is possible to admire some beautiful sites listed historical monument. The fortified house Blain, of the fifteenth century, which today is privately owned, and the bridge over the Eau Morte. The latter is located on the road between Annecy and Faverges and formerly Verthier allowed the lord to levy a toll. From the bridge, one can discover the ruins of the fortified house dating from the thirteenth century Beauvivier.

Natural Heritage Doussard is richer, including the Regional Natural Park of the Bauges which obtained the international label supported by UNESCO Geopark. The dungeon of the castle is part of Doussard including geosites listed on the site. The marshes of Bout-du-Lac, located nearby, home to the National Nature Reserve Bout du Lac, integrated in the Natura 2000 site Cluse Lake Annecy. Many hiking trails are available to enjoy the local fauna and flora.

Events and festivities

The small town of Doussard highlights its traditions and its natural heritage to organize lively events.

Doussard hosts a weekly food market on Monday from 8 am to 13h.

Carnival Doussard in March, does not lack entertainment, with colorful parades, demonstrations of zumba or a flash mob furious. Makeup booths and an evening show are also available.

The Doussard International Triathlon held each year in June. The program includes 1.9 km swimming, 21 km of running and cycling 90 km.

In July, Doussard organizes the event Lac celebrating. On this occasion, visitors can attend a parade float on the lake of Annecy, a free ball, as well as fireworks.
