- Maupertuis mill - Meunerie ecomuseum:
- Dating from the 14th century, the Maupertuis mill is a water mill established on the Nohain river in Nièvre. It is located in the heart of old Donzy, the former capital of an important medieval barony.
- For more than 600 years, it has been associated with the life of the Donziais before becoming an eco-museum of the Meunerie. Today, he invites you to discover the gestures of the millers of yesteryear as well as the process of transforming wheat into flour.
- Through the four levels of the mill, the guided tour gives you a panorama of the state of the milling at the beginning of the 20th century. You will discover there what was a small flour mill of the time thanks to the multiple and various mechanisms, most of which are original. All the machines, in working order, are put into operation before your eyes.
- In 1992, a bucket wheel, the soul of the site, was rebuilt. Since that day, it turns over the seasons.
- The Maupertuis mill has created educational workshops specifically for schoolchildren. Per day or half-day, the mediators welcome you for an informative and fun moment adapted to the school level of the students. In an original way, children can learn to make dough and shape a bun, operate gears, recognize the tastes and scents linked to the world of flour milling but also discern the secrets of hydraulic power…
- Don't forget the store! You will find products from the work of local mills (flour, oils) but also local products (honey, jams) as well as models of mills to be built, books on the region (painters, monuments, history...).
- The mill has been listed in the supplementary inventory of Historic Monuments since 1992.
