At the beginning of the industrial era, proximity to the sea promotes the establishment of a large metallurgical plant, which will be the economic engine of the city for over a century. After its closure in 1986, the city turned again towards the sea, with the construction of the complex of Port William. Port William is an eminently tourist area with a tidal basin with a capacity of 600 seats, and an anchorage area of 300 rings sheltered by a dune. 1,200 homes are divided into vacation homes and cottages pleasantly arranged in a protected natural area. There are also shops and restaurants, the municipal library, and a sailing school.
