The castle of Chiseuil is located in the town of Digoin, in the department of Saône-et-Loire, a few kilometers northwest of Paray-le-Monial.
Located to the south-east of the city, on the edge of the RD 979, the estate was originally the seat of a very old seigniory, mentioned since the Middle Ages. In 1578, the stronghold was acquired by the Lady of La Motte-les-Chigy from a certain Guillaume Goussot.
The Belleperche and Cochardet families then succeeded each other as owners and in 1720, it was the Maublancs who bought the estate after having made a fortune thanks to the trade which had developed via traffic on the Loire.
Their heirs rebuilt the castle in 1763 then, when the Revolution came, it did not affect the family. It is even the opposite because in 1813, made baron of the Empire by Napoleon, Hyacinthe Maublanc de Chiseuil was elected deputy!
Some time later, still in the 19th century, the castle was remodeled.
Nowadays, property is always private. Access to the castle is via an alley planted with trees. The building is made up of a central main building with short wings at right angles. Behind, a covered gallery in the form of a terrace and with balustrade connects the wings.
A park with a water feature surrounds the built elements, and part of the enclosing walls can still be seen.
The property is private and not open to the public.
