Located in the heart of the town of Descartes, in the Indre-et-Loire, the church of Saint-Pierre de Balesmes took the name of the locality on which it was established. Founded in the eleventh century, it was particularly enlarged in the twelfth century, then a restoration in the eighteenth century that has completely transformed, including the addition of an entrance porch.
Listed as a Historical Monument in the early 20th century and today the property of the city, it presents an elegant traditional architecture, with curves in complete harmony and beautiful stained glass windows, partly from the workshop of Tours. From the outside, it is possible to discover a very imposing square bell tower and the bright whiteness of the stone walls.
Do not miss to admire the incredible wooden frame, the barrel vaults of the transept or the choir ending in the oven. Open every day from 9h to 19h, the church of St. Peter Balesmes also has a beautiful liturgical furniture.
