Commune of Occitanie, Cugnaux takes place in the department of Haute-Garonne, in the urban area of ​​Toulouse. Also bordering Plaisance-du-Touch and Tournefeuille, it is populated by more than 16,500 inhabitants.

A rather old town, Cugnaux was illustrated in the 13th century by its conflict with Villeneuve-Tolosane. These two cities have in fact fought a common church for several centuries until the voluntary fire of the latter in the course of the nineteenth century. Today known for its military base, as well as for its agricultural and breeding activity, Cugnaux also attracts many visitors passing through the region.

The Occitan city has indeed a rich architectural heritage testifying to the glorious past of this city to the ancient history.

Things to see and do

Former agricultural estate of several hundreds of hectares, the current castle of Cassagnère dates from the end of XVIIe century. The latter was illustrated in the wine production between the seventeenth and nineteenth century, supplying Toulouse and its surroundings with local wine. Today, it is classified as a Historical Monument and opens its doors during the Journées du Patrimoine.

Built in 1779, the Louis XVI pavilion was at the time the residence of the farmer-general of the gabelles. Inscribed in the supplementary inventory of Historical Monuments, it was however amputated from one of its parts during the construction of the Francazal air force camp.

Do not forget to admire the Château de Maurens, a private wine mansion dating back to the 16th century. At the time feudal castle, the building was modified to offer its current appearance.

It is also possible to visit the Saint-Laurent church from the 19th century, as well as the Notre-Dame-des-Champs chapel, rebuilt in the 19th century in a neo-Gothic style.

To enjoy the surrounding landscapes, it is possible to walk along the canal of Saint Martory. Built in the second half of the 19th century, it extends over 70 kilometers and is still used for the supply of drinking water, agricultural water and hydro-electric power.

Events and festivities

The market is held every Saturday morning. Every May 1st, the city also offers a large fair. A colorful and lively Christmas market is held in mid-December.

In June, the circus arts festival and its extraordinary shows.

Throughout the summer period, between July and August, the town offers various free entertainment to entertain the locals and visitors.

Every first weekend of October, Cugnaux organizes its local fete including the presence of a fun fair.
