The village of Cubières-sur-Cinoble is located at the eastern end of the canton of Couiza in Aude, at the crossroads of the old roads connecting Rennes-les-Bains and Tuchan. It is nestled in the Agly valley, between the Pic de Bugarach (highest point in Corbières with its 1,231 meters), the remarkable site of the Galamus gorges and the Cathar country castles of Puylaurens, Peyrepertuse and Quéribus.
The place of Cubières, a basin watered by three streams, the Cinoble, the Embourdier and the Saouzé, joining the Agly, must have naturally given rise to the establishment of man on its territory since the dawn of time.
What we know about the history of Cubières-sur-Cinoble derives mainly from archival texts linked to the 9th century abbey, of which we lose all trace of activity after 1639 and from the accounts of the Inquisition revealing certain episodes in the story of the last perfect Cathar Bélibaste born around 1280 in Cubières.
This sector is characterized by unspoiled nature, original and wild landscapes and a rich and varied historical heritage.
Agriculture, linked mainly to animal husbandry, fodder and corn, has long predominated in Cubières-sur-Cinoble and constituted the bulk of the resources of the local populations. The vines were hardly worked there; due to the unfavorable climatic conditions in this part of the Corbières and due to the rural exodus, its exploitation has completely disappeared. The largely European populations (Germans, English, Belgians, Dutch, Irish and all regions of France) who have gradually settled over the last 20 years, have also brought a first stage of economic development based on tourist trade, liberal professions or artisanal.
Like many small rural villages that have kept their "authentic" side, Cubières spontaneously transports us to the time of our grandparents and naturally serves as a setting for the Fête d'Antan (demonstration of the old trades of yesteryear) organized every year on the last weekend of July.
