Crozant

In the village of the town, discover the ruins of the ancient fortress of Crozant, located at the confluence of the Creuse and Sédelle. The castle was one of the most powerful fortresses of France during the Middle Ages. Today, only the ruins of the towers of the tenth and thirteenth century remain, offering a spectacular view over the valley of the Creuse, which can be seen below. Many painters in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries were inspired by this site, including Claude Monet.

The Lépinat hotel Interpretation Centre Heritage Crozant offers interactive immersion in the works of famous painters, who were inspired by the landscapes of the Creuse. An original staging and multimedia tools allow you to discover the work and artistry of these landscape painters.

The interpretive trail "painters Trail" offers a 4-km walk, suitable for families, inviting them to discover the history of nineteenth-century painting pleinairiste along the Sédelle. You may like to see the ruins of the fortress Crozant during this ride.

From Hotel Lake Crozant, discover the landscapes of the Creuse. A guided walk an hour and a half star transport you to the heart of the gorges of the Creuse. You will discover a new angle the variety of attractions offered from Lake Eguzon, like the ruins of Crozant, the confluence of the Sédelle or the rock of the Spinner. The Hotel Du Lac also offers rental of canoeing and bike ride for sports in the Creuse valley.

In May, Crozant organizes the traditional flea market of Pentecost in the town. You can walk there and maybe find your happiness in old items offered. Also on the program, a local produce market and a funfair.

Each year in August, the association "Friends of Crozant medieval castle" in partnership with other associations of the Pays Dunois celebrate Medieval Crozant in the village commune. Various events on the theme of the Middle Ages are proposed: historical plays, pantomimes, dancers and musicians, and various games for children and adults, a market of local craftsmen or even the medieval garden tours.

• An important figure in the Crozant School, Eugène Alluaud was born into a family of Limoges porcelain makers, where he was introduced to art at an early age. He studied at the Beaux-arts de Paris in Bouguereau ? S studio, as well as at the Académie Julian. It was in 1885, during an excursion, that he discovered Crozant. Staying first at the Hôtel Lépinat, then in a house in the village, he eventually built his own - villa, the ? Roca ? His paintings are exhibited in galleries in Paris and Limoges, and at the Salon d ? automne and Salon des Indépendants. - Initially influenced by the Impressionism of Armand Guillaumin, they took on a more synthetic style, inspired by Cézanne, from the 1920s onwards. - Until the end of his life, in 1947, Alluaud was also involved in village life, acting as spokesman for Crozant artists and defender of the valley ? S landscapes.
