Some historical details:

The name should designate Grenneville, originally a Roman villa or Gallo-Roman, which itself was probably due to the presence of Gaul.

The first written evidence we have of the existence of a mansion Grenneville date of 1243 through a deed of gift of Anquetil Saire to William de la Fiere. Later, in 1463, when the nobility of checks Montfault Murdrac indicates that William lived in the mansion Murdrac Grenneville. In 1628, René de Gibot, husband of Mary Murdrac is authorized to collect twenty oaks in the forest of Montaigu to restore the mansion. Closer to home in 1710, Madeleine Kadot, wife of Nicolas Murdrac, obtained permission to build a chapel inside the mansion.

These sparse data and good observation sites can make some assumptions.

Upon entering the courtyard through the porch you will find: your right (North) on lordly, on your left the farm and the press in front of you and the stables.

The central part of the house including the tower and the left part of the tower are from the early 15th century. It was therefore probably built by William Robinette Murdrac of Grimouville husband or son also named William. The thickness of the walls, their constitution, some openings style and decor of the fireplace on the ground floor are there to support this assertion. For the same reasons, the porches, the pigeon and some stables are also probably the same time.

The eastern part of the house (facing the sea) is the beginning of the 18th century. It was built in 1710 by Nicolas Murdrac. It is at this time that were open windows on the ground floor and first floor of the central part and also built a chapel now disappeared.

Farm, opposite the house, according to an inscription would be in the lintel of the door of the press in 1521. The press has been modernized in the 19th century at the same time a part of the facade, but the latter with less success.

It is more difficult to date the Court stables that close to the West. Lintels carved several openings might suggest that some of these buildings is the same time as the porches: the 15th century. Unless both recovery. Here too, it is apparent that changes have occurred. In an inventory of the property of William Murdrac mention is made of a water mill. Because of the layout, this mill might naturally be in one of these buildings.

The Lordship of Grenneville was successively held by:

The Greneville before the 12th century. Companions of Duke William, the family then became famous in England.

The Port of 12th to 14th century. At the beginning of the 13th century, Philip Augustus confiscated in favor of the stronghold of the Proud Simon (1243). This confiscation was certainly short-lived as throughout the 13th century, the family is listed as Port lord Grenneville.

The Grosparmy Esquay: at the end of the 14th century.

The Murdrac: 1392 Collin Murdrac wife Jeanne Grosparmy Esquay. Félix-Sébastien Murdrac killed October 16, 1760 at the Battle of Campsbrouch be the last lord of Murdrac Grenneville.

The Pierrepont: Pierre-Raymond Charles - Louis, Marquis de Pierrepont in 1763 married Marie-Francoise Murdrac. He was the son of Charles Louis, comte de Pierrepont, Lord of Dodainville Coline and Charlotte Fitzgerald Saint Marcouf. The Marquis de Pierrepont will be the last lord of Grenneville. None of his son had no offspring.

At his death, his son Jean-René Lecauf of Banoville inherited the manor. He was the first and only mayor Grenneville. The town was linked to Crasville in 1817. He died childless in 1837. He gave the manor to his nephew David Elzéard of Mutel who sold it in 1862 to Dr. Benoni Houssin Dumanoir-mayor of St Lô. Itself was in single inherit his grandnephew Dr. René Thomas. Since then, the house remained in the family.
