Located in the heart of the Gironde, in the region of New Aquitaine, the town of Coutras takes place at the confluence of the Isle and Dronne, about fifty kilometers from the city of Bordeaux. It is also part of the district of Libourne located nearby.
The territory was populated since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the numerous polished or polished flints found on the spot. Small fortress of the Gallo-Roman era, it became seigneury in the eighth century. High place of Protestantism during the Wars of Religion, Coutras was the site of a famous battle between the troops of Henry of Navarre and those of Anne de Joyeuse in 1587.
Calmer, the Girondine city remains appreciated for its geographical location, in the heart of the countryside, as well as for its interesting architectural heritage.
