City of Pas-de-Calais region in Hauts-de-France, Courrières takes place about thirty kilometers of Arras and its citadel in the heart of the community of agglomeration of Henin-Carvin. It is not far from Lens Oignies and Henin-Beaumont, about thirty kilometers from the tourist town of Lille.
Inhabited since Neolithic times, as evidenced by various remains found there, the territory of Courrières developed early in the eleventh century with the construction of a castle by the first count of Lens.
