The Saint-Jean church is located in the commune of Courcelles-la-Forêt, in the Sarthe department, 13 km northeast of La Flèche.
It was built in the center of the village in the 12th century in a Romanesque style, with a square tower adjoining the short right arm of the transept.
The church is listed in the Inventory because of the tomb adjoining it, built in the 16th century.
Furthermore, the building retains several works or elements classified as objects. This is the case of a silver chalice from the 17th century, a 17th century painting representing "Christ carrying his cross and Saint Veronica", a funerary slab and a reliquary, both from the 16th century. Finally, a recumbent figure representing François and Hélène de Champlais was damaged during the Revolution.
A fine example of Romanesque architecture in a rural setting, the church is the subject of guided tours during Heritage Days.
Failing that, it can mark out a walk in this village of character which has other heritage sites. Information on +33 2 43 45 72 26.
