Things to see and do

Cormatin The main tourist attraction is its castle, large private restored house built in the early seventeenth century. Classified as an historic monument, especially he reveals in its interior decorations fabulous dating from Louis XIII, comparable to Cheverny. Rich interiors, castle and allows to enjoy the golden recalling the style of the old Marais hotel rooms in Paris, the apartment of the Marquise of Huxelles whose anteroom is the only part of France to have preserved woodwork high on almost all the walls, or the hall of mirrors, a former cabinet of curiosities. Latest, 1900 rooms were built in the late nineteenth century by the then owner, director of the Opera of Monte Carlo. It has an eclectic style inspired by antiquity, the Renaissance, the Gothic style, or Byzantium. Frequent venue of the poet Lamartine, the castle is situated on one of the islands in the river Grosne, enjoying an idyllic setting. Several parts of his twelve-hectare park are also listed as an historic monument. Ordered from building the castle in 1620, the garden reveals its visitors flowerbeds, a boxwood maze or an ancient vegetable garden. Destroyed in the early nineteenth century when filling the moat, it was reproduced in the early 1990s.

Around or inside the village Cormatin several marked hiking trails allow to appreciate the wildlife and local flora during a few rides. A body of water, popular, is also present on the town.
