Located along the road Verdun Consenvoye, the German military cemetery was created by the French in October 1920. It will be renovated by the Volksbund in 1928. In total 11,148 German soldiers rest in this cemetery. 2532 bodies rest in individual graves and 6177 were placed in ossuary.
It is in this cemetery that took place on 22 September 1984 the meeting between the German Chancellor Helmut Khol and the President of the French Republic François Mitterrand. On May 29, 2016, Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Hollande also went to the German necropolis to lay a wreath in commemoration of the centenary of the Battle of Verdun.
