Located in the heart of the Jura, the hermitage of Conliège takes its origin from a chapel built in the early seventeenth century by a generous donor to the place where hermits have lived. At the time of the French Revolution, they had also an important role as they warned residents in case of fire near the city.
Later owned by the municipality, the hermitage of Conliège will be occupied by a single hermit Joseph Simonin, before falling again in ruins. Ranked Historic Monument, the site is now the property of an association that cares.
