Set in the heart of the forest, in the town of Cléré-les-Pins, in Indre-et-Loire, the Château de Champchevrier is an elegant 16th century estate open to the public from June until the European Heritage Days weekend in September.
Surrounded by moats, the building has been inhabited by the same family since the first half of the 18th century. The site, which notably hosted King Louis XIII, reveals during his visit magnificent ceremonial rooms, old tapestries and even a royal bedroom. A former center of hunting, it also has a very beautiful terrace lined with 18th century balustrades, as well as gardens and a park classified as Historic Monuments.
The most motivated can take the 13 km hiking trail located not far away and which allows you to appreciate the surroundings of the Château de Champchevrier estate a little more.
