The municipal museum of Civray is located in the town of the same name, in the department of Vienne, 17 km northeast of Ruffec.
Run by an association, the establishment aims to present archaeological collections, in this case stones, remains and works unearthed in the caves of Chaffaud (engravings from the Magdalenian period, i.e. from -17 to - 14000 BC). The collection thus includes the reproduction of a reindeer bone, the original of which is now on display at the National Museum of Saint-Germain en Laye.
"Treasures" discovered in other sites in the region excavated in the 19th and 20th centuries are also preserved.
Long housed in the premises of the tourist office, the museum is currently closed to the public.
A transfer project is under study.
