Housed in the lower rooms of the former 13th century palace of the Counts of Champagne, the Chaumont Art and History Museum was founded at the end of the 18th century following revolutionary confiscations. Many times relocated, the city's archeology, history and fine arts collections joined this location during the 1960s, today presenting visitors with magnificent paintings by Paul de Voos or François Alexandre Pernot, a history of glove making at Chaumont or even old games and toys.
Local archeology is represented in particular through sculptures from the Middle Ages to the 17th century or a breastplate from the 9th century BC.
