At the foot of Glandasse mountain, in the Vercors Regional Nature Park, Châtillon-en-Diois is one of the many picturesque villages in Drôme. Surrounded by vines and dominated by tall cliffs, its environment remains wild and preserved.

Châtillon-en-Diois is a charming place to visit in Pays Diois thanks to its "viols", as its narrow, cobbled, sloping streets are known, as well as its fountains, flower-adorned façades and vaulted passages. As you stroll around, relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this quintessential medieval village.

Châtillon-en-Diois, a certified botanical village, exudes a thousand-and-one scents from nearly 300 species and varieties of plants which adorn the walls, windows and little squares. Your senses are sure to be stimulated by this olfactory and visual treat. Lovers of flowers and other plants must be sure not to miss the rare plant festival that takes place there every second Sunday in September!

Additional information
Châtillon-en-Diois

Châtillon-en-Diois, "smile Alpe under the sky of Provence", says Pastor Monod in his book on the village he loved. It is a medieval village at the foot of Glandasse (2041 m), the southernmost cliffs of the Vercors, the threshold of Provence. He married, under the same sky, the charm of the mountains and benefits from a sunny climate.

Châtillon-en-Diois is also chief town of the district comprising the municipalities of Boulc, Glandage, Lus-la-Croix-Haute, Menglon, Holy Roman Treschenu-Creyers and Chatillon.

The wine Diois is deemed under its trademark "Châtillon en Diois". On 80 acres, the vineyard, one of the highest in France, extends up to 700 m altitude. It produces AOC "Châtillon Red", "Chatillon Rose", "Chatillon White". The Chapel at Sourbier through the Gouyarde and Maupas, Gamay, Pinot, Syrah, Chardonnay and Aligoté, and of course, Clairette and Muscat, delight your palate and accompany all your dishes.

Other specialties: goat and sheep.

Things to see and do

The medieval village, crossed by the Rostangs Street, the main artery from the Middle Ages until the mid 19th century, inherited many remains that are discovered during beautiful walks in the Rape (Latin Via alleys) .

You will find among other pretty archways, old houses with their Châtillonnaises pesureaux, the belfry, the home of the consuls, beautiful doors, the City ranked 16th century, the remains of the walls of the fourteenth, instead of Reviron (where carts were "revirer") and the 20 fountains in stone basins ...

The three towers overcome the Saint-Julien (XVIII) church, temple (XVIII-XIX), and clock tower (XVIII).

Incidentally, the 300 climbers from botanical village will be appreciated.

Giono forest and woodland paths are waiting for you to discover a diverse nature. This route will take you to the waterfall of Adoux, resurgence after the mountain Glandaz.

The trail Sheds: Leaving "Shed in Grapevine," district Maupas (3 km towards Die). The trail is marked terminal. Four stations with benches and signs throughout the trip.
