The Museum of Fine Arts and Natural History Châteaudun was established in 1897 and its funds is based on the combined collections by learned societies, government deposits legacies of local personalities.
Over the halls, visitors can discover a permanent exhibition of Egyptian art once personal collection Emile Amélineau native archaeologist Châteaudun. We observe a panorama of early pharaonic civilization. The objects (vases, amulets...) come from excavations in the late nineteenth century.
Is presented also a collection of ornithology, namely a collection of some 3,000 birds and mammals naturalized from Europe, Asia, Africa or America. They were donated by the Marquis de Tarragon. Besides, the dioramas of the room can observe the stuffed animals placed in their natural environment. From another gift, a collection of Oriental art includes porcelain from the East India Company and Asian objects of the most common (toys, Noh theater masks, fans...) to the most surprising (knives seventeenth to the nineteenth century, Persian miniatures and ceramics, silks Chinese).
A dining tables (Tables owned on deposit and works by local painters), a collection of local archeology, a history room that evokes the 1870 war against Prussia and the fire that ravaged the city and finally a space is reconstituted family inside the typical nineteenth century Beauce complement these varied collections able to interest everyone.
Over the year, art exhibits and activities for young audiences and creative workshops are scheduled.
