Small village in the Ain, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Champagne-en-Valromey takes place eighty kilometers from Bourg-en-Bresse, west of the Grand Colombier. It is located in the heart of Valromey, not far from Talissieu, Culoz or Ruffieu.

Rural town mainly oriented towards breeding and agriculture, Champagne-en-Valromey takes its final name in 1956. Occupied since Gallo-Roman times, as evidenced by the remains found on site, it became French at the beginning of the 17th century with for first marquis, Honoré d'Urfé, the famous author of l'Astrée.

Old and full of charm, this small village in the south-east of France is sure to please its visitors.

Things to see and do

While strolling in Champagne-en-Valromey, you will be able to discover its religious heritage while admiring the church of Lilignod and its mainly Gothic architecture, the church of Passin with its Romanesque nave or the Saint-Symphorien priory which formerly depended on the eponymous abbey.

Do not miss to visit the Gallo-Roman remains of the town, including the villa in Ossy. On your way, you will also appreciate the Pain-de-Sucre waterfall in Poisieu, a natural site ideal for strolling.
