Town in Seine-Maritime important in Normandy Caudebec-lès-Elbeuf takes place about twenty kilometers from the tourist town of Rouen, on the left bank of the Seine. Bordering the Eure, it lies not far from Elbeuf Martot or La Londe.
Old, as evidenced by the numerous archaeological remains found there, the territory of Caudebec-lès-Elbeuf flourished since the Gallo-Roman under the name Uggate. Touched by Viking invasions, the city then changed names to become Kalt-Bec and Caudebec. The whole history of the high Norman city is characterized by following a succession of prosperous times and wars or invasions. The arrival of the textile industry in the nineteenth century, however, will give it a rich economy. The industry is also still a major revenue centers of the city, in addition to the charm of its architectural heritage.
