The Archaeological Museum of the Lauragais, now Museum of the Lauragais is located on the heights of Castelaudary, Aude.
It is housed in the former prison of the city adjacent to the Présidial the building, which until 1926 was the seat of the City Court. The entire website adjoining the ruins of the medieval castle destroyed in the seventeenth century by order of Louis XIII.
Formerly dedicated to archeology, the fund of the museum is still partly devoted to the history of the city. Are thus presented the reliquary busts of the seventeenth century. A permanent exhibition is dedicated also to the culinary specialty that is the pride of the city, the cassoulet.
In the old cells, temporary exhibitions are welcomed, especially by contemporary artists.
Labeled "Museum of France", the property is accessed via a ramp from which the visitor enjoys an exceptional view of the Black Mountain and the Pyrenees.
