The first inhabitants ... In a primitive world dominated by the vegetable, mineral and animal, man trying to survive. For this, he finds refuge with caves halfway up the cliffs of Comte located at the confluence of the Céou and valleys of the Dordogne, they underline the importance of site selection of the man.

Millennia later ... By its geographical position, controlling one of the main river channels and terrestrial communications, the parishioners of Castelnaud were the first witnesses of a turbulent past and experienced many vicissitudes during the centuries dominated by wars. In the 12th century castle with its village castral appear. The 14th century, the Hundred Years War when English and French are fighting the site boundary between two kingdoms. After the plague of 1348, the 15th century was the announcement of a relative peace. Castelnaud becomes a French site and a demographic and economic development is established slowly. The family of Caumont, Lord of Castelnaud, built to live in the castle Mirandes (The Milandes) less austere than the fortress. The 16th century was under the influence of religious wars. The 18th century and French Revolution the castle was abandoned, the privileges are abolished, the peasants discovered freedom. The 19th and 20th centuries agitated the minds of men: the inland waterways is supplanted by the arrival of the railway. Industrialization introduced in rural areas. The rural exodus and the two world wars led to desertification. A turning economic related to tourism is taken in 1947 when the castle was bought by Milandes Josephine Baker.
