The Fontirou caves are located in the municipality of Castella, in the Lot-et-Garonne, 18 km north-east of Agen.
These are natural caves that were formed 30 million years ago in the basement of the limestone plateau of the Pays de Serres.
The site includes 7 rooms of spectacular concretions and various hues (stalagmites and stalactites) in which fossils and bones of prehistoric animals were discovered during archaeological excavations.
Newly restored lighting adds to the magic of the visit.
Outside the caves, a mini-golf course and a mini-golf area are available.
Note that the caves will eventually (2020 or 2021) integrate an amusement park also including a zoological reserve and Castle Fontirou where will be organized medieval events.
Open from April to September. Price: 6.50 and 8 euros. Information on +33 5 53 40 15 29.
