Casteljau is located in the south of the Ardèche department, close to the border with the Gard. The town is ideally located at the crossroads of different landscapes: schist, sandstone, limestone and granite.
The Chassezac river winds through the town and offers beautiful swimming spots as well as many outdoor activities: hiking, climbing, mountain biking, caving, fishing, canoeing.
The town is also well known by history buffs, on site many discoveries of Aurignacians and other ancestors were made in caves and sinkholes which were occupied thousands of years ago...
Vineyard work is still important in the town, as is agricultural activity.
Païolive wood offers superb hikes for young and old, between limestone and oaks.
