Castelculier, a city in the country!
Origin of name: Castelculier means Castle Point.
Located along the Séoune in Canton Puymirol, Castelculier retains a rich heritage, and which illuminates its history, from ancient times to today.
Indeed, the town is occupied by man since antiquity. There are still visible traces of Gallo-Roman and Merovingian respectively with a villa, a Roman road (the Tolosane) and the burial of Lamarque and Grandfonds. In the 13th century the city was a stronghold of which still exist the ruins of the ramparts and the castle. In neighboring villages, Romanesque churches and Cabalsaut Saint Amans, dating from the 12th century, preserved respectively beautiful carved capitals and arches in Romanesque sculpture.
Located a few kilometers from the city of Agen, along the RN 113, and near the Tarn-et-Garonne, the common Castelculier offers unspoilt landscapes to explore through hiking trails criss-crossing the territory of the municipality. The population continues to grow and now reaches 2179 people
