Carsac-de-Gurson is a town in Dordogne, in Aquitaine region Nova, 37 km northwest of Bergerac. An area relatively small (about 7 square kilometers), the territory of the village belongs to the natural and cultural area of the White Perigord, a name that reflects its limestone soils.
Already occupied during the Neolithic, then the site is crossed by a Roman road in the southwest of the present village. This strategic axis that justifies the twelfth century, on top of a hill, or a castle built for monitoring the valley. Shaved during the Hundred Years War, then rebuilt, it remains today the remains of interest.
If the church is added, also dating from the twelfth century, that makes up a character heritage at the heart of a green landscape partly dedicated to winemaking. It is however for its lake and its leisure center as the town with some 200 inhabitants is now known, especially in summer. What make a pleasant stopover or stay in a bucolic atmosphere was close to other major attractions.
Two heritage sites are protected on the town as historical monuments. The castle of Gurson first, built in the twelfth century to monitor the following strategic axis Lidoire valley, a tributary of the Dordogne Perigord input from Aquitaine. Shaved in 1254 by Henry III, King of England, the castle was rebuilt on its hill in the fourteenth century and is home to a small but prosperous lordship until the early eighteenth. The heirs of the Counts of times Gurson have already abandoned the scene when the Revolution, the estate was sold. It remains today as sections of walls of a tower of the fifteenth century and some Renaissance elements. Remains belonging now to a winery. All of the old castle and its outbuildings (Hall of Justice, below the hill), surrounded by vineyards, offering a charming landscape and picturesque. Information +33 5 53 80 78 26.
Then see in the village itself, the St. Peter's Church, which dates from the twelfth century and was somewhat altered in the fifteenth. The nave has five bays, the bell tower with arches rising on the further west and also along the dominant portal. The style of the facade is Saintongeais kind: two arches frame the portal four arches semicircular which fall on columns with carved capitals. As for the apse and the choir, they seem to have been originally a small chapel then enlarged to form the present church. Inside, the altarpiece elements (XVIII), the ornaments of the altar and some religious objects finely crafted (chalice, ciborium), are retained.
then Lake Gurson direction and leisure family-oriented, on the edge of the nearby town of Villefranche-de-Lonchat. The set covers almost 60 hectares, a lake of 14 hectares and a second, smaller, 5 hectares. In wooded area, the base includes picnic areas and playgrounds for children, a safe swimming beach is supervised from mid-June to early September, and rental outlets and learning rowing, paddle, the archery and orienteering.
