The manor of La Gazaille is located in the town of Carsac-Aillac, in the Dordogne, a few kilometers south-east of Sarlat-la-Canéda.
This is a former noble haunt built in the 15th century for the Bars de La Gazaille family. This stronghold then passed to the Bouscot family who undertook enlargements in the 16th and 17th centuries: thus, in accordance with the architectural canons of the time, a large building with pavilions at its ends, placed perpendicular to the original manor, was built in 1640. During the Revolution, the Bouscots having chosen to emigrate, new owners settled.
The original manor (rectangular main building formerly pierced with mullioned windows), with a round turret in the shape of an adjoining pepperbox, overlooking the terrace overlooking the valley, has been entered in the Inventory.
At the turn of the 2000s, restoration work was undertaken.
This fine example of architecture that has evolved over the centuries is not open to the public, as the property is still private. On the other hand, the manor and the posterior castle which adjoins it can mark out a pleasant walk in this typical village of Périgord Noir. Information on +33 5 53 31 45 45.
