Located in Carpentras, in the department of Vaucluse, the Lapidary archaeological museum opened in 1936 in the chapel of Visitandines and penitents gray eighteenth century. Closed definitively in 1992, it housed collections of more than 20,000 objects.
Today closed to the public, the former archaeological museum Lapidaire has seen its collections move in 2018 to reach the reserves and permanent exhibition rooms of the Inguimbertine library-museum of the Hôtel-Dieu. It will be possible to see a terracotta dolium of 400 kg in perfect condition and dating from Roman times, or the dais of the fountain of the former cloister of the Cathedral of St. Siffrein.
