Caniac-du-Causse is a commune in the Lot department in southern France. The people of Caniac are Caniacois and Caniacoises.
The first men were already living in the territory of the current commune. Incisive Neanderthal dated 335,000 years was discovered in the cave of Pradayrol.
Caniac appeared in 654 in a deed mentions a gift that made the Bishop Didier Chapter of the Cathedral of Cahors. Saint Namphaise later retired to the forest of Braunhie, hermit valiant warrior Charlemagne companion. His remains rest in the crypt of the church of Caniac, built in the twelfth century under the authority of the abbey of Saint Pierre de Marcilhac sur Cele.
Caniac is one of 17 municipalities of France awarded the Medal of the Resistance by decree of July 17, 1945.
The church is listed as a historic monument in 1923.
The crypt of the church has a curious vault, actually a clumsy attempt to cross vault (there are 5 branches instead of 4).
