Commune of the south-west of France, Cadaujac takes place in New Aquitaine, in the department of Gironde. It is located in the urban area of Bordeaux, about ten kilometers from the city, in the canton of La Brède.
Populated since the Gallo-Roman era, the city of Cadaujac evangélise in the eighth century and sees appearing its first church in the eleventh century. Former barony, it was known in the Middle Ages for its forest and its vines. The town developed strongly in the eighteenth century with the influence of the wine trade of Bordeaux. His wines are very successful at the European level, and Cadaujac thrives.
Still a wine-growing city, Cadaujac still seduces visitors today with its charm and rich architectural and historical heritage. Its proximity to Bordeaux and the banks of the Garonne make it an ideal place to enjoy a holiday in the south-west of the country
Built in the 11th century and remodeled in the 19th century, the Saint-Pierre church is attached to the abbey of Saint-André de Bordeaux. Composed of three naves and three apses, it reveals in its interior beautiful Romanesque capitals, some of which still have their colors. The windows of the second half of the nineteenth century, are not lacking interest either.
Listed as a historical monument, Malleret Castle is a neoclassical building built in the 18th century. Modified in the nineteenth century, it has preserved some remains of the original monument, such as the traces of an ancient gate, or the central part of the castle. Private property, it can be visited during the Heritage Days and the annual Rendez-vous au Jardin party. Its park reveals a beautiful French garden facing the Garonne. You can admire the terracotta lions of the original castle as well as ancient brick and stone fittings such as the belvedere, the Hispano-Moorish dovecote or the old wine-growing outbuildings. The large metal greenhouse, now located in the City Hall Park, was built by Gustave Eiffel's team for the 1878 World Fair.
Also listed as an historic monument, the castle of Saige was owned by a former mayor of the city in the eighteenth century. Requested by the Germans during the occupation, it is now owned by the town hall.
The Right House, listed as a Historical Monument, dates from the second half of the 18th century. Rectangular plan, it has dependencies built later.
Other castles also take place on the town like that of Eck of the late twelfth century and dedicated to wine production, that of Bardin, or that of Bouscaut.
Located on the pilgrimage routes of Santiago de Compostela, the town of Cadaujac has some vestiges of this great era. One can admire a pilgrim terminal that once indicated the pilgrims' way and a gathering place for blessings.
Younger guests and their parents will also enjoy discovering the exotic farm, a charming little animal park with lots of entertainment.
The market is held every Sunday morning. A Christmas market is also proposed in December.
The municipal carnival is held every year at the beginning of March with its parade and its various festivities.
The Fête de la Musique takes place in June in the castle park and offers several free concerts.
Every 24 June, the fires of Saint-Jean light up. On the program, an outdoor blessing, a meal and musical entertainment.
Every July 13, the town offers, for the National Day, a ball and fireworks.
