Catalan commune of the Pyrénées-Orientales, Cabestany is located in the heart of the Occitanie region, bordering south of Perpignan. Located in the Roussillon plain, it is also close to Canet-en-Roussillon and Saleilles. In Catalan, the name of the town comes from "Cap" Head and "Estany" Pond, and evokes the geographical location at the tip of the pond of Canet - Saint-Nazaire. The population is nearly 10,000 inhabitants, city where life is good.

In the past, the city of Cabestany was almost entirely dedicated to growing grapes and producing wine. It is today rather turned towards the residential and benefits from the aura of its big tourist neighbor. Pleasant home for visitors to the area, Cabestany is ideally located to enjoy a holiday in the sun.

Quite old, the town however presents an interesting architectural heritage, turned in particular to its medieval history. Hiking trails and other outdoor sports activities are also part of this city that lacks neither heat nor attraction.

Things to see and do

City with medieval style and exceptional monuments, Cabestany does not lack attraction for lovers of old stones.

Notre-Dame-des-Anges church is located in the heart of the old village of Cabestany. Romanesque in style, it houses the Marian tympanum said Master Cabestany which dates from the late twelfth century. The latter, classified as an historic monument, was unearthed in the 1930s and presents several carved characters. Inside the building, the carpentry dates from the fourteenth century, and outside, several buried jars were found, attesting to the ancient presence of a Roman villa.

The terraces of Cabestany, located on the slopes in the direction of Canet-en-Roussillon, are territories populated for more than 800 000 years. Unfortunately, today only isolated stones remain.

The Romanesque sculpture center, nicknamed the Master of Cabestany, is both a museum and a research center on this mysterious sculptor. Exhibitions are regularly offered throughout the year for lovers of Romanesque art.

Several hiking trails are accessible through the town or around, and allow to admire the local fauna and flora, as well as historical remains.
