Briis-sous-Forges

Listed as a Historic Monument, the Saint-Denis church dates from the 11th and 12th centuries. Elegantly blending Romanesque and Gothic style, it is the work of the monks of the Abbey of Saint-Denis. Visitors can admire a very beautiful 17th century Baroque high altar, as well as a statue of Robert de Biis, a blessed priest victim of the September massacres in 1792. Outside, it is also possible to discover its impressive square three-storey bell tower almost forty meters high.

While strolling through the town, you can also discover a communal washhouse listed in the Departmental Heritage Directory of Essonne, in particular by taking the Heritage route. The latter reveals a dozen points scattered throughout the town which provide additional historical and cultural elements on the city and its heritage.

Rewarded with two flowers in the competition for towns and villages in bloom in France, Briis-sous-Forges reveals a magnificent natural heritage. Fans of outdoor walking will be able to take the various marked trails in the communal forest, the Bois de Croulard or the Invilliers pond.

The weekly market is held every Friday at noon on the Place de la Mairie.

In June, make way for the Saint-Jean festival and its entertainment for the whole family.

Every first Sunday of October, the town organizes its famous flea market.

A Christmas market with artisans, Santa Claus parade and other tastings is offered at the end of the year.
