Bramans is a small village of about 390 inhabitants, with a glorious past!

In 218 BC Hannibal and his 37 elephants crossed these lands before beginning his ascent to the pass the Crosta Clapier to fight the Romans in nearby Italy. Then Charlemagne made the ascent of Petit-Mont-Cenis by Crosta before Napoleon decides to open a road (N6 become current D1006) by Bonneval and the Mont-Cenis (different from Col Petit Mont-Cenis !). You can read some books written in Latin "Bramovicum olim metropolis" (formerly Bramans metropolis) means that this village had a very important past.

Things to see and do

Overlooking Bramans on the old Roman road of Italy, Saint-Pierre Extravache, one of the oldest churches in Savoie, offers a splendid view of the Vanoise and the village.

The town is situated on the edge of the Vanoise National Park, hiking that you can practice on this beautiful land are many. Way of Hannibal, Grand Tour of Haute Maurienne (GHTF) or trail huts Bramans. At the heart of the park, Glacier de la Vanoise and Dent Parrachée are one of the wonders of the Alps hiding in this little corner preserved.

Bramans the gates of Modane with forced by the forts Esseillon way. This natural barrier, five forts built by the Italians feared there about 150 years of French invasion.
