Between wooded hills, the meanders of the Ouche draw an enchanting setting to this former capital of a rural canton whose origins go back to prehistoric times. The look is drawn by the church of the twelfth and thirteenth century topped with a steeple tuff fifteenth century overlooking the village. This church was formerly within the walls of the castle, destroyed by order of Louis XI in 1478. Of the six towers that flanked this castle, only the remains of the towers of Avagne and the Chapter remain.
